Finalists selected for IDEA10 Achievement Awards

A total of 16 of the most innovative and successful new products in the nonwovens and engineered fabrics industries of the past three years have been nominated as finalists for the prestigious IDEA10 Achievement Awards. The finalists were selected from submissions in five separate categories and the winners will be announced during the IDEA10 International Engineered Fabrics Conference and Expo, April 27-29, 2010 in Miami Beach, Florida. Moves at Trützschler

TrutschTrützschler Group has completed its takeover of John D Hollingsworth on Wheels, is running trials for Cotton Incoporated in Germany, and will now supply spares for Fleissner Nonwovens Ansbach machines.
All John D Hollingsworth on Wheels facilities, patents and copyrights were taken over in December by American Trützschler, based in Charlotte, North Carolina and Trützschler Card Clothing (TCC). This takeover will allow TCC to continue seamlessly with the Hollingsworth production programme, adding it to its existing production locations.
Taking on specialists from the John D Hollingsworth company has bolstered the sales and marketing team in the USA and American Trützschler’s field service. (more…)

LyondellBasell to cease PP production at Terni

LyondellBasell Industries announced a project to cease the production of polypropylene (PP) at Terni, Italy. The company has started the employee consultation process regarding a project to permanently shut down the unit.

“Demand for polypropylene continues to be affected by global economic conditions and the resulting market environment has made facilities such as Terni no longer economically viable. We expect to be able to meet projected customer demand for polypropylene (including local customers in Terni) with product supplied from our other facilities in Italy,” said Anton De Vries, LyondellBasell’s senior vice president, Olefins and Polyolefins –Europe, Asia and International. Foshan Announces Close of $4.1 Million Bridge Financing

GUANGDONG PROVINCE, China, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ — Foshan S.L.P. Special Materials Co., Ltd. (“Foshan”), a producer of proprietary nonwoven fabrics based in Foshan, China, announced today that on February 12, 2010, it closed a $4,140,000 bridge financing, through the issuance of 10% convertible notes.

Foshan intends to use the proceeds from the financing for working capital and to begin expanding its production capacity of Polyphenylene-sulfide, or PPS, which is the premier material used in filter bags for industrial and energy based carbon emissions control.

Longboard Capital Advisors LLC, a Santa Monica based fund focused on cleantech and alternative energy investments, and Jayhawk Capital Management LLC, a China centric fund, were the lead investors. Primary Capital LLC acted as Placement Agent in the financing. (more…)

ASSOCHAM to host technical textiles conference

Technical Textiles and nonwoven market shares about 25% of consumption of all textiles in volume terms. The average growth till 2012 is predicted at the rate of 4-5% depending on area and application. Study shows that world markets demand will be higher for Geotextiles, Industrial textiles and Building textiles whereas lower growth rate is seen in sectors like Hometextiles and Clothtech textiles.

World end use consumption of Technical Textiles was US $120 billion in 2007-2008 which in volume terms 21 million tons. Experts forecast the consumption by 2012 to be of US $139 billion with volume of 26 million tons. (more…)

Hollingsworth & Vose Company (H&V) today introduced its AquaSureTM and AquaSure Ag lines of pool and spa filter media at the National Spa and Pool Industry Expo 2004. The new filtration media offers high water flow rates with minimal resistance, while exhibiting superior filtration efficiency and dirt holding capacity. In addition, AquaSure Ag is the first pool and spa media to integrate antimicrobial protection into the fiber for longer lasting effectiveness over the life of the filter. (more…)

Avgol sees bright future for nonwoven textiles in China

A year and a half ago, Avgol, a humble Israeli company from the Barkan industrial zone, was poised to wrap up a deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars that would have made it a world giant in nonwoven textiles. But then along came the global economic crisis and ruined its plans. Yet two months ago, Avgol became the first of the Tel Aviv-listed pack to dare to brave the waters again, and raised money in a bond offering.

With a tenth of the sum it had planned to raise in 2007 to carry out its acquisition, Avgol is now planning a bright new future – in China. (more…)

Techtextil NA names Kim Glas as keynote speaker

22 February 2010, Atlanta, GA – Techtextil North America Symposium 2010 has announced that Kim Glas, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Textiles and Apparel, is to be its Keynote Speaker at its forthcoming event.

The latest technology, applications, and the overall direction of the technical textile and nonwovens industry will be presented by experts and leaders from around the world during Techtextil North America Symposium being held from 18-20 May 2010 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Libero1With Libero just named Russia’s top baby diaper brand, SCA has reported strong results for its 2009 financial year.
Libero came top in its sector in the Russia National Brand Award – recognised as the most significant brand award in Russia, since the winners are selected purely on the basis of consumers opinions.

Walmart ends the year with strong free cash flow

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. reported financial results for the quarter and year ended Jan. 31, 2010. Net sales for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2010 were $112.8 billion, an increase of 4.6 percent from $107.9 billion in the fourth quarter last year. Net sales for the fourth quarter included a currency exchange rate benefit of $1.9 billion. Income from continuing operations attributable to Walmart for the quarter was $4.7 billion, an increase of almost 24 percent from $3.8 billion in the fourth quarter last year. (more…)
