Auxetic fabrics display exotic properties

Materials that exhibit counter-intuitive property are known as auxetics. Auxetic fabrics are warp knitted with high and low stiffness yarns.

These materials have wide range of applications in fields like medical, soil reinforcement, aerospace, defense, automobile and many more.

Auxetic materials are created when structure is arranged in the classic bow tie shape. The best example of this effect is an Auxetic honeycomb. They are a major area for research and development.

Auxetic structures exhibit an extraordinary behavior of becoming fatter when stretched and thinner when compressed. High engineered smart textiles are been used in various fields of technical textile due to their high tensile load bearing properties.

Auxetic materials are now being produced as composites, fabrics, foams where monofilament auxetic fibers will be available commercially in near future.
